Team Member Profile: Tilly

Meet Tilly, local lass, last-minute life-saver, rugby player and Snack Shack stalwart.

In a previous blog we’ve touched on the importance of jobs and work experience for young people. They are a great means of building confidence, learning the value of money and the importance of hard work. They help instil values such as teamwork, as well as defining character, and providing a great foundation for your future career. In a time when it’s harder than ever to detach young people from the distractions of phones and the online world, gaining some real-world experience can be absolutely invaluable. And there’s no greater proof of that than in our latest team member profile.

This week we focus on Tilly, a Dorset Adventure Park Snack Shack stalwart for three seasons who, having gained vital experience at the park, is shortly off to pistes new, and will be spending the winter season working in a ski resort. About as local as a local lass can be, Tilly lives less than half a mile from the park, Tilly can always be relied upon in times of need, and has jumped in and saved the day on countless occasions. She’s fitted summer seasons at the park around studying for her degree in Geology at Plymouth University, and having graduated, is looking forward to her exciting new adventure abroad. In her spare time, Tilly can usually be found excelling on the rugby pitch or working out in the gym. Let’s find out what else makes Tilly tick.

Quote to live your life by: Dance like nobody’s watching. (Mainly because nobody cares you’re dancing)

If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?: A dinosaur, because I aspire to be able to stomp on people when they’re annoying, like a diplodocus.

What is the best thing about working at Dorset Adventure Park? : Every day is different, and keeps you on your toes.

What is it like to be part of the team at Dorset Adventure Park? : Everyone is very friendly but very tired and you end up working more with certain people. It’s very busy.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while at work? : Having to jump out of the front hatch of the Snack Shack because we were invaded by hornets!

What is your most memorable day at work? : Easter Holidays 2018. I came into work and was asked to weed the lake, which ended up involving waders, a rake and a canoe. In the rain!

So there you have it; a profile of our very own Tilly, living proof of the significance of work experience and a hard work ethic, as well as the importance of finding jobs for young people in rural communities. Tilly will be sorely missed at the park, but we’re pretty sure we haven’t seen the last of her. We wish her all the best in her new adventure. Come back and see us soon!
